Each year, days before the start of the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the Convention of the United Nations framework on climate change (UNFCC), the Conference of Youth (COY) is organized in the city where the COP is done.

In 2015, since the COP21 was held in Paris (France), the eleventh Youth Conference took place, from 28 to 30 November, in the same city. It included meetings, talks, conferences, and other activities related to mountains’ environment. A round table was held on “Mountains, climate change and gender”.

The Conference was aimed at making young people understand the importance of mountain ecosystems for sustainable development and the threats posed by climate change. The current international legal framework on women was highlighted and the importance of women and young people for the preservation of the mountains emphasized.

More than 500 young people participated to the COY11.

The next conference, COY12, will be held in Morocco, where the Conference of the Parties is also due to meet.
