Mountain Wilderness Switzerland has been honoured with the «Swiss Environmental Award». The award recognizes the wilderness campaign for sustainable protection of wilderness in Switzerland. The prize money of 10’000 Swiss francs is an important support for the small Swiss NGO.
Mountain Wilderness (MW) Switzerland has won the «Swiss Environmental Award». On May 19th, mw Switzerland has been rewarded in the city of Lucerne for its wilderness campaign in the category «organizations/ institutions». The goal of the wilderness campaign is to ensure long-term protection of wilderness in Switzerland. The prize money of 10’000 Swiss francs is an important contribution to the campaign budget. The press release of the Swiss Environmental Foundation that awards the prize states that wilderness will become even more important than today. The pressure on the last remaining wilderness areas in Switzerland is ever increasing. For example tourism projects or energy production threaten untouched spaces.
Sebastian Moos, project manager at MW Switzerland is delighted by the award. «For us as a small organization, the award is a very important contribution. It confirms our opinion that wilderness is an issue of increasing importance that deserves great commitment.» The Swiss Environmental Foundation awards the prize every year in the three categories «private persons», «companies» and «institutions/ organisations». In 2017, the «Swiss Environmental Prize» has recognized projects that facilitate biodiversity, climate and resources.
